Window styling

We always spend time designing, changing & styling our windows here. Its a great message board for passers by and social media. Its a place to shout out loudly what you love, think is a great trend or something that will spark an idea in a client's mind for their party.

To start the season off we talked about NEON. Collaborating neon colours with graffiti art. The importance of the party, bringing friends together and what ever the weather it's still fun.

So go on customise your wellies for a festival party, hang graffiti lampshades from the trees and ALWAYS follow the call of the disco ball.

New season

Its been far too long since I last posted mainly because so much has been happening here.

2017 seemed to appear rather promptly and has been on roller skates ever since. It's April tomorrow so don't be fooled!

I am very happy we are diving into to Spring. I have got some lovely parties under my belt already from a joint 40th, a festival themed joint 40th & 70th to beautiful day through to the wee hours house warming party name a few.

We have looked at what's hot and what's not for 2017 and I love this woodland theme for a wedding or a party. IT is all about atmosphere, nature, beauty and dark berry tones. And with all that naturalism geometrics are thrown in as a juxtaposition.

So here is the look we love so much .........

Christmas is coming ........

I am really quite excited. We have lots going on here at Sara Kirkby Event Style. To start the Christmas cheer we have designed a pop up bar. Our Narnia inspired Champagne & Prosecco  bar is coming to Bruton high street on Wednesday 7th December. So come and join us in the wardrobe opposite the Chapel if you are in the West Country. #chinkchink #poppop #corkspopping

We love the thought of a Christmas party. Dressing up, friends all together. Sparkle and joy. Here are a few of the things that we think you will love too.

. Christmas cocktails ......

How about a Christmassy Margarita flavoured with orange and cranberry? It is just up our street. Or if you are looking for a non alcoholic drink what about this pomegranate sparkling Mojito?

. Christmas canapés ......

We just love Jamie Oliver's DIY canapé spoons. Super easy and great for mixing different canapés on one party platter. And we adore these gorgeous mini Christmas pudding spoons.

. Christmas party tableware .....

We love, love these disposable Harlow & Grey marble side plates and Art Deco black & gold dinner plates. And if you love a bit of glitz and glamour Rockett St George have wonderfully decadent gold cutlery.

. Christmas tunes ......

When it comes to music there is only one choice, vinyl. So whether you love Sir Cliff or something more groovy let the turntables spin.

Cardboard & Concrete

I just keep seeing it everywhere. Cardboard is corrugated, folded or origarmied. I love it. It's inexpensive and pliable. Loving design can make you a little greedy and it's very easy to give yourself permission to change a room,  a look, or a colour because you love design and are following the latest trend. Accessories are the obvious updating tool. With cardboard you are never going to break the bank and can have a quick fix update. Cardboard origami lampshades are brilliant for parties to fill a marquee ceiling. They look great kept natural or spray paint them in amazing colours to your hearts content.

When one thinks about concrete we are quick to imagine a hard cold material reminiscent of a 1970's tower block. Not so. It has become a thing of beauty and it doesn't need to be polished either.

We love these simply beautiful concrete accessories by Trouva.com.

A Somerset wedding

Embarrassingly I haven't written in my journal for far too long. The reason? We've been really busy planning, styling and managing wonderful parties, weddings and even a small festival. So I'm back and this is just one of the events from the summer but one I enjoyed the most.

This wedding I'm about to share is probably my favourite one we that we styled this season. My lovely bride to be who was happily planning her special day in her home town of Istanbul was suddenly given no choice but to change all her plans and move the wedding to Somerset the home of her future husband. Living between London, Istanbul and often America made planning a wedding very tricky.

The bride and groom had found a venue but desperately needed my help to bring together all the other components that would realise their dreams of a perfect wedding in only 6 weeks.  I got underway with putting together ideas that reflected their childhoods, their travels and the mix of their cultures. They wanted to reflect the history of Constantinople as it was then and rural Somerset. To capture the grooms love for nature as a child and their passion for Istanbul and their travels together but for it to be subtle and executed in a way that expressed them, calm, sophisticated and gentle.

Inside the lovely pole marquee we created a chill out space that reflected an Englishman's study with a touch of Constantinople. Travel trunks for tables and traditional standard lamps, Chesterfields, wing armchairs and Berber poufs.

Outside in the pretty apple orchard we created another relaxing space with outdoor sofas covered in Kilims. Vintage apothecary jars filled with posies adorned the tables and created a mix of old England with a nod towards Istanbul.

We love the old tin bath we filled with Somerset apples & floating Dahlia's and Hydrangea's. We hired a wooden apple crate bar where we displayed an explorers hat, vintage books, conkers & butterflies reflected the groom's childhood love of reading & collecting.

Outside in the apple orchard the children had their own chill out zone in a lovely bell tent decked out with vintage eiderdowns, cushions and conkers strung up for fun.

And now as we come towards the end of an amazing summer we are excitedly looking at trends and putting together themes to inpire our clients next summer.

Watch this space.
